Cassadó: Requiebros (Interpretation Class)

Zachary Fung, cello

Gaspar Cassadó, one of the most famous cellists the world has ever known, is frequently pointed to as a master of the art of rubato. During the three years that maestro Zander studied with Cassadó, he learned this delicate nuance of expression first-hand. In this Interpretation Class, Zander and BPYO cellist Zachary Fung reflect on an old Chopin recording by Cassadó, tackle one of his compositions, and discuss what it means nowadays to craft musical phrases directly from the heart.
